Statutes Vegvisir Race Nyborg 2025
1. Vegvisir Race is an annual Adventure Sail Racing event. The skill of navigation is decisive as the courses have only few limits and restrictions. Fairness, sportsmanship and seamanship among the participants and the organizers is promoted. Adventure Sail Racing is about fair competition in a territory where sailors can connect to nature, wind and sea in the quest for sublime experiences. Vegvisir Race starts and finishes in a port in Denmark - in 2025 the venue is Nyborg.
2. The event is single- and doublehanded exclusively.
3. New courses are sailed every year and can feature adventurous sailing Danish, German and Swedish waters. The courses combine inshore and offshore sailing. There is a long course approx. 200 nautical miles, and a short course approx. 100 nautical miles. The sailing direction on each course will be published on the skipper meetings.
4. The event takes place in the first weekend of September.
5. The price structure of Vegvisir Race is a price ladder. An early registration gives a lower entry fee price.
6. Participants are devided into the following Vegvisir Race Class categories (VRC). The categories are defined by the LOA of a boat. The LOA is measured in foot (1 foot = 0.3048m) and indicate the overall hull length (LOA) as defined in World Sailing’s Rules.

7.1 All finishers will be awarded with a finisher t-shirt.
The winner of each category is the boat that sails the outright fastest time round the course in each category.
All 28 winners will get a mentioning.
If there are more the 5 boats registered in a category the winner will be awarded.
7.2
There will be perpetual trophees awarded to the record holder on the Long Course in each of the categories with 10 or more boats registered in the category.
The boat from these categories holding the fastest average speed on the circumnavigation to date, retains the VEGVISIR RACE trophy until this record is broken. However, VEGVISIR RACE record holders are required to return the trophy to the Vegvisir Race Management before the start of the following years VEGVISIR RACE.
8. Participants in Vegvisir Race can only start if they are registered and have paid the entry fee, and can show a valid third-party sailboat specific liability insurance upon registration.
9. Any suitable and seaworthy sailboat can sign up to participate in Vegvisir Race. The race management has the right to reject any boat or skipper not found shipshape and seaworthy and boats of an inappropriate safety standard.
10. As Vegvisir Race is a single- or doublehanded race, only the same (for singlehand) and the same two (for doublehand) persons must be on board during the race.
11. Vegvisir Race is performed in accordance with The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea and in accordance with these statutes and with the governing Railing Guidelines for Vegvisir Race (to be published in July).
12. All challengers must sail with a tracking system provided before the race. A participant number is handed out and must be shown to the race officers in the starting area and when crossing the finishing line. The participants are obliged to return the tracker and the start number immediately after finishing or withdrawal from the race. Lost trackers and/or lost starting numbers are replaced in cash.
13. Participating boats must, on request, sail with flags supplied by Vegvisir Race’s sponsors. Flags and other materials will be handed out upon registration. Participants must be available for phone calls from the event's communication unit for interviews directly from the course. Further; participants must allow On Board Reporters to enter their boat during racing for interviews and reporting.
14.1 The boat must be equipped statutory navigations lights in accordance with the International Maritime Code (COLREGS). Boats under 7m in length must also be fitted with fixed navigation lights as described for boats of 7 meters or longer.
14.2 Participating boats must be equipped with the following mandatory safety equipment:
- CE or Solas approved life jackets for crew and skipper. Singlehanded participants must wear the lifejacket during the entire race. 2Star participants must wear lifejacket at night and when the circumstances demand it.
- Safety harness for all participants.
- Jacklines mounted along the deck for attachment of the safety harness.
- VHF radio - handheld (incl. batteries for the entire race) or a stationary.
- Analog compass.
- 2 (wheel marked) red handheld flares, within expiry date, OR 1 red Electronic Visual Distress Signal
2 (weel marked) distress rockets, within expiry date
- A fire extinguisher
- A bucket or scoop
- A first aid kit
- A heavy-duty flashlight/or headlamp
- A knife
- A suitable anchor with anchor chain and / or lead-line ready for immediate use.
- Cell phone
14.3 A Stanchion mounted sea rail for monohulls participating on the long course. For trimarans on the long course a stainless steel, carbonfiber or titanium pull pit is required.
14.4 Singlehanded participants on the long course must qualify by having finished either Silverrudder Challenge, Midsummer Challenge, Vegvisir Race singlehanded or similar.
14.5 Singlehanded boats on the long course must be equipped with a functional autopilot.
14.6 Singlehanded participants on the long course must carry either a satellite supported or AIS supported personal beacon (PLB or EPRIB).
14.7 Singlehanded participants on the long course must have a shore crew who is in touch with the participant during the entire race and who is available for the race officers by phone 24/7during the entire race.
14.8 Singlehanded participants on the long course might be obliged to follow a rest time rule.
15. Participants acknowledge with their signature, by the delivery of tracking equipment and start number, that compulsory safety equipment and approved lanterns are in accordance with paragraph 11.1 above and these statutes in general.

16. Breach of the above statutes may result in disqualification.
