Mastering the Weather: National tv broadcast weather host Jacob Mouritzen Joins Vegvisir Race 2025

At Vegvisir Race Nyborg, it's not just about racing – it's about learning, developing, and becoming sharper both at sea and on land. That’s why we’re proud to introduce a brand-new event in our “Sailing & Socializing” concept:

🎙️ On Wednesday, September 3 at 18:30, we invite all skippers, co-skippers, sailing and weather enthusiasts to a special weather talk with Danish TV meteorologist and experienced sailor Jacob Mouritzen.

Talk Title:

Professional Weather Forecasting – Upgrade Your Skills with Advanced Tools

In this engaging and highly relevant session, Jacob will guide you through:

  • How reliable is the forecast really?

  • Which weather model should you trust – and when?

  • What tools do professional meteorologists use that sailors rarely know about?

He’ll introduce ensemble forecasting, a method used to assess uncertainty and add vital insight to your route planning. You’ll also learn the differences between key models featured in popular apps like Windy and PredictWind – and how to use them more strategically.

But this is not just a theoretical exercise. At Vegvisir Race Nyborg, weather knowledge is a tactical advantage.

Nail the Transitions – and Your Position

The Vegvisir Race courses are designed to challenge your endurance, seamanship, and decision-making. The combination of inshore navigation and offshore legs means conditions can shift rapidly – and so must your tactics.

In many cases, the difference between a smart transition and a costly delay comes down to your understanding of the weather:

  • When will the wind shift?

  • How fast will the new breeze fill in?

  • Where is the next calm zone or pressure line?

Knowing the answers – or having a model-based strategy – can position you on the right side of a developing weather scenario. And that can make all the difference.

“Too many sailors rely blindly on the default model in their app – but they don’t know what they’re missing. I’ll show you where to find the free, professional-grade tools that can help you make safer and smarter decisions,” says Jacob Mouritzen.

Who can join?

This evening talk is open to everyone – Vegvisir Race participants, locals, and all sailing enthusiasts who want to sharpen their weather sense and tactical edge.
