A Moonlit Overtake: Jan Hansen Wins the 94 NM Race
Jan Hansen and The Beast, his Aeolos 30, claimed line honours in the 94 NM distance of Vegvisir Race Nyborg 2025 in spectacular fashion. At Marstal, he was trailing by more than 1.5 nautical miles behind Renterbank – a JPK 10.30 skippered by Lorenz Jensen. But everything changed on the way towards Rudkøbing.
As the wind dropped near Rudkøbing, Jan seized the opportunity and managed to overtake not just Renterbank but also Vegvisir Race’s former two-time singlehanded champion Patrik Heinrichs in his Esse 850 Jynx.
In his post-race interview, Jan described the night as “magical.” With a 97% full moon casting its glow over the South Funen Archipelago and a steady westerly breeze allowing for reaching conditions all night, the race offered more than just tactical battles—it was a pure celebration of the elements. “Warm air, moonlight and silence, except for the sound of water and wind. It was a night to remember,” he said.
A true example of how Vegvisir Race is as much about personal triumph and elemental experience as it is about speed and strategy.
