Vegvisir 95 becomes platform for Open (Unofficial) Danish Solo Offshore Championship 2025

In 2025, Vegvisir Race takes another step toward shaping the future of solo offshore sailing. The 95-nautical-mile solo course around the island of Langeland will serve as the platform for an Open (Unofficial) Danish Solo Offshore Championship – aimed at raising the bar and building a more structured competitive format in singlehanded sailing.

An alternative to casual solo sailing festivals

While solo sailing has grown in popularity in Denmark and the Baltic over the last decade, most events have leaned toward informal formats with limited competitive structure. At Vegvisir Race, we believe there’s a need – and a desire – for a more ambitious approach to solo offshore sailing. That’s what we want to provide.

The new solo championship format will still be open and inclusive. It will be based on the Danish DH rating rule, enabling boats of various sizes to compete fairly. But it will also include a clear set of safety and performance standards to raise the competitive level and reward seamanship.

The 95 NM long course that combines tight inshore with the wide open Baltic Sea when the island of Langeland is circumnavigated.

Part of a larger international vision

The Open Championship in 2025 is also intended as a first step toward a broader international initiative. We are currently in dialogue with potential partners about creating a recurring TrueNorth Solo series — a cross-border concept that could alternate between Denmark and verious contries in the region from 2026 onward.

The ambition is to establish a more structured, competitive platform for solo offshore sailing in the Baltic Sea region, governed by the international ORC Club rule and combining course racing with offshore distance races.

By introducing a transitional championship in 2025 under the DH rule, we aim to include a wider range of sailors while testing ideas and formats that could form the backbone of this international series.
